 universities have been building elaborate diversity management programs si
 nce the 1980s.  Have their innovations increased diversity among corporat
 e managers and academic faculty?  Data from hundreds of companies and uni
 versities\, over several decades\, provide answers.  Some programs have h
 elped\, some have not.  Programs designed to engage leaders in addressing
  diversity have mostly worked\, while those designed to control decision-m
 akers’ bias have often backfired.  Most programs to promote work-life b
 alance have helped\, but programs to address workplace harassment sometime
 s backfire.  Findings help to explain America’s slow progress in integr
 ating corporations and universities. \n
