DESCRIPTION:Prof. Dennis Gillingham\nThalidomide became infamous in the 60
’s for its teratogenic effects but since then it and derivatives have be
en rediscovered as potent drugs against myeloma. These molecules act as ca
talysts by orchestrating the degradation of proteins important for the can
cer. In a sense they offer a chemical approach to accomplish the same ends
as siRNA or CRISPR/Cas9. In this talk I will discuss the how protein-degr
ading small molecule catalysts work and describe efforts in our lab to bui
ld a new series of such catalysts.
