DESCRIPTION:The Novartis Research Foundation (Novartis Forschungstiftung) 
 has launched the 2019 FreeNovation thematic call for research projects on 
 Systems medicine: From molecule to phenotype and better therapies. \n \nP
 roposals must:\n\n	Apply to at least one of the following key words:\n	\n	
 	Data integration\, modeling & simulation\n		Analytics\, diagnostics\, ima
 ging \n		Physiology\, pathology\, pharmacology\n	\n	\n	Relate to biomedica
 l research with the ultimate aim to provide healthcare solutions for patie
 nts.\n	Be unconventional and radical\, with the potential to open up novel
  research directions and aiming beyond incremental innovation and discover
 y.\n	Be particularly original and hard to fund by conventional funding pro
 grams due to the “unorthodox” character of the idea or absence of a lo
 ng-standing academic reputation held by the researchers.\n	NOT include com
 mercial activities nor be influenced by commercial interests.\n\n \nFundi
 ng & Duration: up to 15 projects will be supported with maximum CHF 180’
 000 for 18 months.\n \nWho can apply: \n\n\n	PhD or equivalent qualificat
 ion\n	Employed at a reputable healthcare or healthcare-related organizatio
 n\, incl. university\, university hospital or university of applied scienc
 e in Switzerland throughout the duration of the grant.\n	Interdisciplinary
  proposals from scientists inside or outside of traditional disciplines ar
 e welcome.\n	Max. 2 applicants → co-applicants may together submit a sin
 gle proposal. Alternatively\, they can submit two proposals\, but tag them
  as connected (although connected proposals will be reviewed separately\, 
 the benefits of the collaboration will be factored into the evaluation).\n
 \n \nFunding and duration: Max. CHF 180’000 for up to 18 months\n \nDe
 adlines:\n\n\n	Please fill out the Institutional Support Letter template a
 vailable in the EPFL Toolkit \, have it signed by the Dean and\, if applic
 able\, by the Director of the Institute and the Head of Unit\, and send it
  to research@epfl.ch by 5 April 2019 for the institutional signature.\n	Su
 bmit your proposal by 14 April 2019\, 23:59 CET via FreeNovation online ap
 plication portal.\n	Proposals will be reviewed anonymously to encourage yo
 ung scientists and unconventional ideas by an international review committ
 ee chaired by Prof. Gerd Folkers (ETHZ) with 6 academic and 3 Novartis sci
 entists\, who are experts in the field.\n	Decision: mid July 2019.\n\n \n
