DESCRIPTION:Prof. Jean-Charles Bolomey\, University Paris-Sud XI\nMicrowav
e diagnostic is based on the dielectric contrast existing between differen
t tissues\, or between similar tissues in different conditions\, such as n
ormal or pathological for instance. From the contrast point of view\, micr
owaves offer attractive potentials as compared to competing imaging modali
ties such as MRI\, X-ray tomography\, Ultrasound echo-tomography\, etc. Ho
wever\, spatial resolution suffers from complex scattering mechanisms and
requires some optimization according to the desired depth of investigation
. Specific difficulties in retrieving the dielectric contrast inside human
tissues from scattered field data will be pointed out.
