 lm)\nIn Fourier analysis\, complex exponential systems are used to describ
 e periodic signals (functions). It was understood relatively recently that
  if we add a corresponding system in 1/x we may hope to describe all signa
 ls\, without any periodicity assumption. Moreover\, this decomposition tur
 ns out to be relatively robust\, with formulas analogous to the Fourier co
 efficients in the periodic case. The two systems\, in x and 1/x\, may be u
 nderstood as working with complex exponentials of two variables\, connecte
 d by the hyperbola xy=1. The hyperbola  gives the connection with the Kle
 in-Gordon equation.
