DESCRIPTION:The Blue Brain Project is delighted to announce that it will b
e hosting the second Neuromodulation of Neural Microcircuits NM² conferen
ce led by Srikanth Ramaswamy and Henry Markram. It will take place on May
  24 – 26\, in Champéry\, Valais.\n\nThe overarching goal of the second
NM² Conference is to provide a unifying and mechanistic view by which an
ever-increasing number of neuromodulators\, including monoamines\, and pep
 tides – the master switches – control genes\, proteins\, neurons and g
lia\, dendrites\, synapses\, and emergent states in neural microcircuits a
cross different brain regions in health and disease.\n \nBuilding such a
mechanistic view of neuromodulation encounters several fundamental challen
ges to consider:\n\n	How do sensory signals\, internal brain states\, and
computations in microcircuits\, trigger the release of specific neuromodul
ators?\n	How do neuronal assemblies and larger brain circuits respond to n
euromodulators?\n	How do neuromodulators shape synaptic plasticity and bra
in states?\n\nTo this end\, the NM² Conference will bring together resear
chers to bridge a variety of disciplines using state-of-the-art techniques
in different brain regions\, towards the common goal of understanding the
mechanisms and principles of neuromodulation and addressing the challenge
s above.\n \nOur fundamental objective is to organize a dynamic conferenc
e that will highlight an up-to-date view of the neuromodulation of brain s
tates\, establish future directions\, and attract new talent to drive forw
ard this important field.\n \nREGISTRATION\n \nTo register for the Confe
rence\, please click here\n \nPlease register as soon as possible\; only
 a limited number of seats are available.\n \nPOSTER ABSTRACTS\n \nWhen s
ubmitting an abstract PhD students and Postdocs are encouraged to apply fo
r Blue Brain travel awards to participate in the NM2 Conference. Awards\,
which are only open to those who submit abstracts\, include registration f
or the Conference (including accommodation and full board)\, and travel su
pport. Some of the submitted abstracts will be selected for flash talks.\n
\n \nPlease feel free to contact Dace Stiebrina should you have any q
 uestions concerning the conference.
