DESCRIPTION:Prof. Marcel Mongeau\, Professor in Operations Research at EN
AC (École Nationale de l'Aviation Civile) in Toulouse\, France\nAbstract:
\nWe propose two approaches to address a challenging problem arising in Ai
r Traffic Management\, that of keeping at all times a distance between any
pair of aircraft throughout their flight trajectory above a threshold val
ue. We address the problem by adjusting both aircraft speeds and heading a
ngles simultaneously. Both the mixed-integer nonlinear programming model a
nd the penalty continuous optimization model we are introducing deal with
the complex aircraft separation constraints through reformulations. Numeri
cal results validate the proposed approaches.\n\nBio:\nMarcel Mongeau rece
ived his BSc (1985) and MSc (1987) degrees in Mathematics from Universite
de Montreal\, and his PhD (1991) in Combinatorics & Optimization from the
University of Waterloo (Canada). He was then a post-doctoral researcher at
CRM (Universite de Montreal)\, at INRIA (France) and at the University of
Edinburgh. From 1994 to 2011\, he was at IMT\, Universite Paul Sabatier (
France)\, where he received a Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches in 20
 03. He is currently Professor in Operations Research at ENAC in Toulouse (
France). His research interests include Global Optimization\, Numerical Op
timization\, and Operations Research with applications to aeronautics.\n\n
