DESCRIPTION:Dr Fabrice Dupray\, ENAC-LMS\nNuclear waste storage is today o
ne of the most challenging research problems in the field of civil enginee
ring\, as it involves a great number of physical processes\, such as mecha
 nical processes\, hydraulic and thermal problems\, diffusion processes\, r
eactive transport\, fracture modelling and so on. The field of geomechanic
s is contributing largely to improving the understanding of the highly cou
pled processes occurring in nuclear waste storage designs. This seminar wi
ll focus on thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes and the way they can b
e treated in a fully coupled manner to solve some of the problems encounte
red in nuclear waste storage\nor in the experiments that currently help it
s preparation. The ACMEG-TS model is an advanced model for the simulation
of THM processes in geomaterials\, such as the bentonite that is seen as t
he best buffer material for insulating nuclear waste canisters. It feature
s thermo-mechanical and hydro-mechanical couplings that have been observed
on a range of lab experiments. This seminar will explain how these coupli
ng have been necessary for the prediction of real-scale experiments and ho
w sensitive the response of the design is to them.
