DESCRIPTION:Sara Torabi\, Arch\, Ph.D.\, Interuniversity Department of Reg
ional & Urban Studies and Planning-DIST\, Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo).
Sara Torabi holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Development at the Interun
iversity Department of Studies and Regional and Urban Planning (DIST) at P
olitecnico di Torino. She also has collaborated on several European and Na
tional projects such as IEA-EBC Annex 66\, EEB-Buildings with Zero Energy
Consumption in Intelligent Urban District\, SHAPE ENERGY and DIMMER-Distri
ct Information Modelling and Management for Energy Reduction and spent per
iod of her Ph.D. research at the École Polytechnique Fédérale De Lausan
ne (EPFL) in Switzerland at the Solar Energy and Building Physics Laborato
ry (LESO-PB). For the time being Sara Torabi is a Postdoctoral researcher
at the Urban Sustainability and Security Laboratory for Social Challenges
(S3 + Lab) at Politecnico di Torino while her main research\, focuses on t
he field of Impact Assessment of sustainable Indicators for the city scale
\, Multicriteria Spatial Decision Support System (MC-SDSS) for urban regen
eration planning. She also deals with the integration of participatory dec
ision-making processes in planning purposes\, organizing several focus gro
ups and workshops involving real stakeholders. She has developed a new MC-
SDSS\, which is an interactive energy plug-in in the Geographic Informatio
n System (GIS) using the CommunityViz software. The MC-SDSS tool can explo
re a range of possible futures for assisting urban planners\, policymakers
and built environment stakeholders in their efforts to plan\, design and
manage low-carbon cities. Furthermore\, she is an author of numerous inter
national publications.\nThe research focuses on energy consumption modelli
ng based on bottom-up methods to evaluate the current status of energy con
sumption and different future energy saving scenarios promoting sustainabl
e urban planning. However\, the choice among urban energy planning scenari
os is extensively based on multi-actors and multi-criteria aspects. For th
is purpose\, stakeholder-oriented approach plays a key role in implementin
g the effective strategies for urban and regional adaptation. The research
\, therefore\, is also dealing with the integration of participative decis
ional processes of urban energy planning by organizing different focus gro
ups involving real stakeholders. The talk will illustrate the result of th
e development of a new Multi Criteria Spatial Decision Support System (MC-
SDSS)\, which is an interactive energetic plug-in in Geographic Informatio
n System (GIS) environment using CommunityViz. The new MC-SDSS is intended
to facilitate the decisional process for stakeholders who can ask “what
-if” questions and visualize “if then” scenarios in a real-time.
