DESCRIPTION:The charity Worldwide Cancer Research was established in Edinb
 urgh (UK) in 1979 to support daring and ambitious research into any type o
 f cancer by top scientists in world-renowned institutions all over the wor
 ld. The charity invests at least £4 million in research every year.\n \n
 Worldwide Cancer Research awards grants to fundamental or translational re
 search into the prevention\, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. It supports
  research that draws on epidemiological\, behavioural and clinical data to
  provide a starting point for a new avenue of research. Multidisciplinary 
 or discipline-hopping projects are encouraged where this helps stimulate i
 nnovation.  \n \nDoes NOT support clinical research\, including clinical
  trials\, patient care\, nursing or healthcare delivery research\, nor any
  other types of applied cancer research such as policy\, public health or 
 psychosocial research.\n \nWho can apply:\n\n	Researchers employed at a r
 ecognised\, non-profit research institution anywhere in the world througho
 ut the duration of the grant.\n	Applicants must be tenured or tenure-track
  research group leaders or postdoctoral researchers (min. 3 years after Ph
 D) employed at a research institution anywhere in the world.\n	Non-indepen
 dent applicants must apply with the head of their unit as co-applicant.\n

 efore you start your application.\n	The PI holds the main responsibility f
 or writing the application\, and designing and directing the research proj
 ect.\n	Commercial\, for-profit organisations are NOT eligible for funding.
  They can only participate as collaborators.\n	Max. 1 application per call
  per research group. \n	Applicants cannot submit an application for two ca
 lls in a row.\n\n \nFunding & Duration: max. £ 250’000 for 12-36 month
 s.\nEligible costs:\n\n	Personnel costs\, incl. social charges (except for
  tenured\, tenure-track or open-ended posts). The PI’s salary can be req
 uested only by postdocs who are trying to become independent.\n	Research-r
 elated costs\, incl. consumables\, animal costs\, reagents\, travel to con
 ferences for personnel paid by the grant\, scientific visits and essential
  services.\n	Does NOT cover: clinical personnel and costs\, overheads\, eq
 uipment (except for small equipment purchased by new group leaders) and pu
 blications (open access costs must be requested separately).\n	Note: trans
 fer of funds between budget headings detailed in the approved application 
 is not permitted.\n\n \nDeadline: \nIf you are interested in applying\, p
 lease note: \n\n\n	Only the first 500 applications submitted via the onlin
 e grants system are considered.\n	You must submit your application and con
 tact research@epfl.ch by April 29\, 2019 for the compulsory validation of 
 your application by the “Authorised Officer”. Note: your application w
 ill not be actually submitted until the Research Office (the “Authorisin
 g Officer”) validates it.\n	The call deadline is May\, 3 2019 at 17h00 (
 British local time).\n	Evaluations are carried out by the foundation’s S
 cientific Advisory Committee\, as well as by external reviewers.\n	Selecte
 d projects must start on February 1\, 2020 (+ 3 months flexibility).\n\n
