DESCRIPTION:The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is a medical research chari
 ty established in the UK in 1961 to support research into all forms of hea
 rt and circulatory disease. Despite the advances in the fight against thes
 e diseases\, the World Health Organization predicts that\, by 2030\, the a
 nnual number of deaths from cardiovascular disease will rise to almost 24 
 million.\n \nIn order to find transformative research solutions to this g
 rowing global burden\, the foundation has launched a global competition: t
 he Big Beat Challenge. The foundation is looking for transformational solu
 tions to a significant problem in heart and circulatory disease. Proposed 
 projects must look beyond incremental gains and accelerates research break
 throughs that could transform lives across the globe.\n \nWho can apply:\
 n\n	The challenge is open to international multi-disciplinary teams of sci
 entists\, clinicians\, innovators and entrepreneurs anywhere in the world.
  \n	Applicants can come from any domain\, e.g. academia\, industry\, techn
 ology.\n\n \nFunding: the competition will culminate with a single resear
 ch award of max. £30 million. However\, depending on the quality of the a
 pplications received\, the foundation may decide to fund more than one awa
 rd in this round of funding.\nEligible costs: personnel costs (excl. the P
 I’s salary if he/she is salaried at an institution)\, research-related c
 osts and\, for applicants outside the UK\, 10% overheads.\n \nDuration: 4
 -7 years.\n \nDeadline:\n\n\n	If interested\, please complete your outlin
 e proposal on the online application portal\, generate a PDF and submit it
  to research@epfl.ch by Monday\, 10 June 2019 to obtain the institutional 
 support.\n	Deadline for outline proposals: 14 June 2019\n	In late 2019\, 2
 0 outline proposals will be invited to progress to a full application (dea
 dline: early/mid 2020). Shortlisted proposals are expected to engage publi
 c interest and support through\, for instance\, media\, events\, meetings 
 and site visits. Note that your lay summary and extracts from your applic
 ation may be shared with potential donors for the purpose of raising funds
  for the Big Beat Challenge.\n	Proposals are sent to independent peer revi
 ew before being assessed by the foundation’s relevant scientific committ
 ee. The final decision is made by Board of Trustees and communicated in mi
