DESCRIPTION:The CHIST-ERA ERA-NET is a consortium of research funding orga
 nisations supporting joint transnational research on multidisciplinary lon
 g-term Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and ICT-based chal
 lenges with the potential to lead to significant breakthroughs. The consor
 tium is supported by the EU’s FET programme.\n \nOn a yearly basis\, th
 e participating funding organisations (incl. SNSF) support high risk\, hig
 h impact projects by launching a transnational call for research proposals
 .\n \nThe 2019 Call\, which will open in October\, will address research 
 challenges within two new and hot topics:\n\n	Explainable Machine Learning
 -based Artificial Intelligence\n	Novel Computational Approaches for Enviro
 nmental Sustainability\n\n \nPreliminary topic descriptions are available
  at this link.\n \nThe specific research challenges within these topics w
 ill be identified by the attendees of the CHIST-ERA Conference 2019\, Tall
 inn\, June 11-13\, which is open to the research community.\n \nThe confe
 rence represents a unique opportunity to participate in scoping the call t
 opics\, to network with potential project partners and get insight into th
 e future call. Attendance at the conference is not a prerequisite for subm
 itting an application to this call. It can nevertheless provide background
  information for preparing a proposal.\n \nFor information about the conf

 nEligibility of the consortium: 3-6 partners from at least 3 different par
 ticipating countries.\nEligibility of Swiss-based applicants: follow SNSF

 n the amount allocated by the SNSF (last call: CHF 1M for 3-5 projects).\n
 Duration: 24 or 36 months.\nTimeline of the call (forecast):\n\n	Deadline 
 for pre-proposals: January 2020.\n	Deadline for full proposals (by invitat
 ion): March 2020.\n	Decision: October 2020.\n	Earliest start of the projec
 t: December 2020.\n
