DESCRIPTION:Aim: BrightFocus provides research funds for U.S. domestic as 
 well as international researchers pursuing pioneering research leading to 
 greater understanding\, prevention\, and treatment of age-related macular 
 degeneration. The goal of the program is to accelerate advances in fundame
 ntal and translational research in age-related macular degeneration\, to u
 nderstand the mechanisms underlying the etiology and pathogenesis of macul
 ar degeneration and to develop innovative approaches to better diagnose\, 
 prevent or delay the progress of the disease. The standard award provides 
 significant funding for researchers who have already generated some amount
  of preliminary data\, but are often required to demonstrate additional\, 
 significant progress before they can apply to governmental or industrial f
 unding agencies.\n \nDuration: 2 years\n \nFunding: USD $200’000\n \n
 Eligibility: The Principal Investigator (PI) position on BrightFocus Stand
 ard Awards are open to tenure- and non-tenure track investigators of any c
 areer stage who are appropriately trained to lead an independent research 
 study\, and are permitted by their organizations to manage grants and supe
 rvise key personnel. Typically these awards are made to early stage invest
 igators\, or to more established investigators who are proposing particula
 rly innovative research. Additionally\, Postdoctoral Fellows may be listed
  as Co-Principal Investigator.\n \nHow to Apply: Applications must be sub
