DESCRIPTION:Aim: The NORD Rare Disease Research Grant Program was establis
 hed in 1989 to encourage meritorious scientific and clinical studies desig
 ned to improve the diagnosis or therapy of rare “orphan” diseases. Gra
 nts will be awarded to qualified researchers to initiate small scientific 
 research studies or clinical trials\, the results of which could be used t
 o obtain funding from larger funding agencies\, or to attract a corporate 
 sponsor. Procedures or proposed therapeutic trials may be new\, based on r
 ecent biochemical or pharmacological evidence\, or in preliminary stages o
 f clinical investigation. Protocols that will focus on cause\, early detec
 tion\, diagnosis\, or treatment (pharmacological\, devices\, surgery\, or 
 dietary) will be given priority.\n \nIn this call\, grants are available 
 for research related to the following rare disorders:\n\n	Malonic aciduria
 \n	Alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of the pulmonary veins\n
 	Primary orthostatic tremor\n	Appendix cancer and pseudomyxoma peritonei\n
 	New-onset refractory status epilepticus and febrile infection-related epi
 lepsy syndrome\n	Autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 1\n	Neuroendocrine
  cell hyperplasia of infancy\n	Biliary atresia\n\n \nFunding & Duration:

  First-step applications should be submitted along with an initial letter 
 of intent. These materials should be sent electronically as a single PDF t
 o <research@rarediseases.org> with “NORD Abstract Proposal” as the sub
 ject line. Successful applicants will be invited to submit full proposals
