DESCRIPTION:Prof. Michaela TENCEROVA\, University of Southern Denmark\, Od
ense (DK) and Institute of Physiology\, Czech Academy of Sciences\, Prague
(CZ)\nSEMINAR of the LAUSANNE INTEGRATIVE METABOLISM and NUTRITION ALLIAN
CE (LIMNA)\n\nAbstract:\nBone fragility and fracture risk are overlooked c
omplications affecting the quality of life in patients with metabolic dise
ases and they are often associated with higher accumulation of bone marrow
adipose tissue (BMAT). BMAT originate from the bone marrow skeletal (also
know as stromal or mesenchymal) stem cells present in the bone marrow str
oma and give rise\, in addition to adipocytes\, to osteoblast participatin
g in bone formation. Opposite to peripheral adipose tissue there is limite
d information on a physiological role of BMAT in relation to bone and whol
e body energy metabolism. In this talk I will review our current findings
on metabolic changes in BMAT phenotype and its effect on bone marrow micro
 environment and stem cell properties.\n
