CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: The Symbiosis in Aquatic Systems Initiative of the Gordon
and Betty Moore Foundation is soliciting pre-applications for awards to d
evelop freshwater and marine model systems where at least one symbiotic pa
rtner in the model system is a microbe (bacteria\, archaea\, and/or single
 -celled eukaryotes\, including single-celled fungi).\n \nThese awards wil
l fund scientists (individuals or teams) to generate new tools\, protocols
\, and resources to significantly improve the ability to observe and manip
ulate aquatic symbioses of interest. An essential component of this opport
unity is a willingness of all grantees to form a collaborative community w
here methods and ideas are openly and actively shared to accelerate the pa
ce of methods and technology development and avoid unnecessary redundancy
 in these pursuits.\n \nDuration:      18-36 months\n \nFunding:
No pre-determined award size\n \nEligibility: Individuals or tea
ms may apply. Both tenure-track and non-tenure track researchers at academ
ic institutions are eligible to apply\, as are scientists at non-profit or
  for-profit companies\, provided all data\, protocols\, and methods genera
ted from model systems projects are openly shared with the scientific comm
unity. Both U.S. and non-U.S. scientists are encouraged to apply.\n \nHow
  to Apply: There is a two-step application process. First\, a pre-applicat
ion must be submitted\, providing information about the model system of in
terest\, vies on aquatic symbiosis research\, and areas of model system re
search of interest. Candidates invited to submit a full application of a p
rospective award will have the opportunity to expand on their project deta
ils. For team efforts (i.e. a proposal lead with one or more co-submitters
)\, the pre-application must be submitted by the lead on behalf of the tea
 m. Pre-applications should be submitted on the smapply application platfor
 m.\n \nPre-application Deadline: 08 August 2019\n \nFurther information
\n\n	More information about the program is available here.\n	The applicati
on portal can be found here.\n	For any other questions\, please contact th
 e Research Office.\n
