DESCRIPTION:Aim: The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Scienc
es (MPS) division invites applications for the Simons Collaborations in MP
S program. The aim of the Simons Collaborations in MPS program is to stimu
late progress on fundamental scientific questions of major importance in m
athematics\, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science.\n \nA
Simons Collaboration in MPS should address a mathematical or theoretical t
opic of fundamental scientific importance\, where a significant\, new deve
lopment creates a novel area for exploration or provides a new direction f
or progress in an established field. The questions addressed by the collab
oration may be concrete or conceptual\, but there should be little doubt t
hat answering them would constitute a major scientific milestone. The proj
ect should have clearly defined initial activities and goals by which prog
ress and success can be measured. The support from the foundation should b
e seen as critical for the objectives of the project.\n \nThe project sho
uld involve outstanding researchers in a range of career stages. Excellenc
e of the scientific leadership is one of the main criteria in the selectio
n process. The project should be organized and managed in a manner engende
 ring a high level of collaboration.\n \nDuration:      4 years\n \nF
unding:        $2M/year\n \nEligibility: Each collaboration is led
by a collaboration director\, who must hold a tenured faculty\, or equival
ent\, position at a U.S. or Canadian educational institution. Additional P
Is are expected to perform research that advances the goals of the collabo
ration and to collaborate as appropriate with other members of the collabo
ration. PIs\, co-PIs and other collaboration participants may be from non-
U.S. institutions.\n \nHow to Apply: The collaboration director must subm
it a Letter of Intent (LOI) through proposalCENTRAL\; the LOI should inclu
de a research plan and a tentative budget. You will be notified of the LOI
’s status by the 1st of December\, at which time a full proposal may be
 requested.\n \nFind more instructions on How to Apply here.\n \n \nDead
 line\, LOI:
03 October 2019\nDeadline\, Full proposal (by req
 uest):      13 February 2020\n \nFurther information\n\n	More informa
tion about the program is available here.\n	The application portal proposa
lCENTRAL can be found here.\n	For any other questions\, please contact the
