DESCRIPTION:Prof. Gerhard Lauer\nAbstract\nIn the public a number of claim
 s floating around about the end of books and end of reading. Shallow readi
 ng instead of deep reading is the way specifically the young generation re
 ads if this generation reads at all. In contrast to these claims\, our res
 earch shows how vivid young readers write and read books today\, mainly on
  social media. Since this reading is often far away from established ways 
 of reading\, we developed a research agenda to explore the digital lives o
 f books and todays readers\, look into the real-time data and try to find 
 ways to measure reading activities in large data sets.\n\nBio\nGerhard Lau
 er is professor for Digital Humanities at the University of Basel. He is a
  literary scholar by training\, worked at Munich\, Göttingen and now Base
 l. Recently published “Lesen im digitalin Zeitalter” (Reading in the d
 igital age\, 2020).\n\n\nDH Research Seminar \nThe DH Research Seminar is 
 a series of talks organised by the Digital Humanities Institute given by r
 esearchers from a wide range of backgrounds and aiming at presenting the v
 ast array of subjects covered by Digital Humanities.\n\nDue to sanitary re
 strictions\, the DH Research Seminar will be given exclusively on-line dur
