DESCRIPTION:Prof. Ulrik Brandes\nAbstract\nAfter millions of years of cont
emplation\, a computer might make sense of this title.\nMeanwhile\, althou
gh maybe not for quite as long\, I will talk about network science and som
e of its applications in literary corpus analysis.\nThe focus is on fundam
ental questions related to oppositions such as works of art vs. network da
ta\, close vs. distant reading\, and qualitative vs. quantitative approach
es\, but they will be exemplified with questions from a study of Deutscher
  Novellenschatz (1871-1876).\nThis collection of German-language novellas\
, edited by Paul Heyse and Hermann Kurz\, is the main subject of an ongoin
g collaboration with Thomas Weitin (TU Darmstadt).\n\nDH Research Seminar
\nThe DH Research Seminar is a series of talks organised by the Digital Hu
manities Institute given by researchers from a wide range of backgrounds a
nd aiming at presenting the vast array of subjects covered by Digital Huma
nities.\n\nBe sure to come. Listen to the talk and participate if you wish
in the Q&A session\, and continue to discuss the subject with the speake
r and the other participants in a relaxed athmosphere during the apero tha
 t will follow the talk.
