DESCRIPTION:Jeffrey Hoffman\n\nProfessor Hoffman will discuss some of the 
 challenges involved in exploring Mars\, including the need for using local
  resources to support human exploration (In Situ Resource Utilization\, or
  ISRU). He will describe the Mars Oxygen ISRU Experiment (MOXIE) that will
  travel to the surface of Mars on NASA’s Mars2020 rover and will\, for t
 he first time ever\, demonstrate ISRU on another planet by electrolyzing c
 arbon dioxide from the Mars atmosphere to produce oxygen.\n\nJeffrey Hoffm
 an teaches in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massac
 husetts Institute of Technology.  A member of the U.S. Astronauts Hall of
  Fame\, Hoffman was the first person to spend 1\,000 hours on Space Shuttl
 e missions\, helped repair the Hubble Telescope\, and designed advanced sp
 ace suits and tools for building the International Space Station.  He bec
 ame NASA’s European representative and continues to serve NASA as a depu
