DESCRIPTION:Francesca Di Cara (University Avenue Halifax\, NS\, Canada)\nD
 r. Di Cara’s research program aims to define the mechanisms by which  p
eroxisomes\, important metabolic organelles\, orchestrate the innate immun
e responses.  Her group heavily relies on the use of the Drosophila mode
l system  to explore the tissue-specific peroxisome contributions to imm
unity.  Her work identified a novel and previously unexplored player in i
nnate immunity.  Defining the roles of peroxisomes in regulating immune p
rocesses has implications for our understanding of peroxisome metabolic s
ignaling in inflammation\, immunodeficiency\, cancer and diabetes and open
s a new unexplored field of the innate immunity. For more information go
