DESCRIPTION:Velux Stiftung was founded in 1980 by Villum Kann Rasmussen\, 
 a Danish engineer. He developed a novel window construction that could be 
 installed in sloping roofs\, which he named “VELUX” (“Ve” for vent
 ilation\, and “Lux” for light).\n \nThe Velux Stiftung supports basic
  and applied research in the fields of daylight\, healthy ageing and ophth
 almology which:\n\n	stems from innovative\, out-of-the-box ideas\,\n	is re
 levant beyond the borders of a single discipline\,\n	can accelerate resear
 ch by removing bottlenecks\,\n	enables implementation of research and\n	wh
 ose results will be promoted and/or implemented inside and outside academi
 a.\n\n \nProjects outside these fields\, but under medicine and biology (
 especially biology gerontology and geriatrics)\, have a low likelihood of 
 being supported\, but may be considered in exceptional cases.\n \nThe fou
 ndation welcomes international and interdisciplinary collaborations.\n \n
 The project application needs to establish a good argumentation why no suf
 ficient governmental support can be obtained.\n \nWho can apply\n\n\n	Bot
 h individual researchers and research groups.\n	The main applicant (e.g. p
 rofessor\, group leader) must be a permanent employee of a university or o
 ther permanent research entity anywhere in the world.\n	Non-permanent empl
 oyees are welcome to apply as co-applicants.\n\n \nDuration: 1-4 years\n
  \nFunding: approx. CHF 50-100’000 per year covering\n\n\n	Research sta
 ff costs (personnel costs\, doctoral students\, teaching replacement).\n	A
 ssociated research costs (e.g. consumables\, conference\, travel\, publica
 tion).\n	Equipment costs may be included if duly justified.\n	Does NOT cov
 er overheads nor social insurances.\n\n \nDeadline for institutional supp
 ort letter: 23 April 2020\n\n\n	EPFL applicants are kindly invited to fill
  out the Institutional Support Letter template available in the EPFL Toolk
 it\, have it signed by the Dean and\, if applicable\, by the Director of t
 he Institute and the Head of Unit\, and send it\, together with the propos
 al\, to research@epfl.ch by 23 April 2020 for the institutional signature.
