DESCRIPTION:The CHIST-ERA ERA-NET is a consortium of research funding orga
nisations supporting joint transnational research on multidisciplinary lon
g-term Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and ICT-based chal
lenges with the potential to lead to significant breakthroughs. The consor
tium is supported by the EU’s FET programme.\n \nEvery year\, the parti
cipating funding organisations (incl. SNSF) launch annual calls to support
high risk\, high impact transnational projects.\n \nThe 2019 Call promot
es projects on:\n\n	Explainable Machine Learning-based Artificial Intellig
ence (XAI)\n	Novel Computational Approaches for Environmental Sustainabili
ty (CES)\n\n \nApplications should follow and address the SNSF policies o
n open access and open data.\n \nWho can apply: \n\n\n	International cons
ortia composed of researchers from at least 3 different participating coun
tries (with minimum 2 EU Member States and EU Associated Countries). Conso
rtia are encouraged to include partners from enlargement countries or non-
EU countries participating in European research programmes. Additional par
tners from other countries may be part of a consortium if they can secure
their own funding. The standard consortium size is 3-6 partners.\n	Swiss-b
ased applicants: all Swiss applicants must be eligible for SNSF Project Fu
nding (see EPFL Instructions for SNSF Project Funding). Please contact res
earch@epfl.ch to verify your eligibility for the call.\n\n\nLook for partn
ers using the Partner Search Tool.\n \nFor Swiss-based applicants and co-
applicants: \n\n\n	In case of several overlapping SNSF projects\, all proj
ects must be thematically different.\n	Swiss applicants may participate in
at most one CHIST-ERA proposal.\n	The SNSF exclusively funds research con
ducted for purposes that are not directly commercial.\n\n \nFunding:\n\n\
n	Depends on the country-specific regulations (each partner is funded sepa
rately by the national/regional funding).\n	The SNSF has allocated CHF 1M
for 3-5 projects for this call. For EPFL applicants: use the Budget Calcul
ator available in the EPFL Toolkit for SNSF Project Funding.\n	At most 60%
of the total requested funding may be requested by partners from one coun
try.\n	At most 40% of the total requested funding may be requested by a si
ngle partner.\n\n\nTimeline of the call:\n\n\n	Launch of the call: 1 Decem
