 s that constitute the brain is a critical step towards understanding the r
 elationship between brain structure and function. We are building a state-
 of-the-art single-cell transcriptomic atlas of adult male and female mouse
  brains by employing standardized experimental and computational pipelines
 . Using cortex and hippocampus as examples\, I will present results and ch
 allenges in defining cell types with single cell transcriptomics and how c
 ell types defined this way correspond to cell types defined by measuring o
 ther cellular properties. I will conclude the presentation with describing
  new approaches that utilize single-cell transcriptomic and epigenomic inf
 ormation to enable genetic access to cell types and classes for investigat
 ing their function.\n
