DESCRIPTION:Prof. Dr. Domenico Marinucci\, Department of Mathematics of th
e University of Rome Tor Vergata\nTalk organised by LCAV (IC) lab\nAbstrac
t:\nOver the last two decades\, Cosmology has experienced a sort of revolu
tion\, where a flood of data of unprecedented accuracy has become availabl
e by means of a number of different ground-based and satellite experiments
. The analysis of these maps entails a number of extremely interesting mat
hematical questions\, mostly related to the geometry of spherical random f
ields. In this talk\, we shall be concerned in particular with issues rela
ted to detection of point sources (Galaxies) in Cosmic Microwave Backgroun
d radiation (CMB) Data\; we shall discuss the connections with spherical w
avelets\, distribution of critical points for spherical random fields\, an
 d multiple testing procedures.\n
