DESCRIPTION:Federico Scavia (UBC)\nThe essential dimension of a class of a
 lgebraic objects is the minimum number of independent parameters required 
 to define each object. Let A be a finitely generated algebra (with 1\, but
  not necessarily commutative) over field. It is an interesting problem to 
 compute or estimate the essential dimension of the class of representation
 s of A of given dimension over k. I will explain how the essential dimensi
 on of representations of A determines if A is of finite representation typ
 e\, tame or wild\, and how we may extract new numerical invariants of A fr
 om it. If A is the path algebra of a quiver\, we can compute the invariant
 s explicitly
