DESCRIPTION:Keita Tamura\, Laboratory of Sensory Processing\nLearning-indu
ced changes in sensory-motor processing in mouse dorsal cortex\n\nWe updat
e our behavior by learning values of sensory inputs\, but the neural mecha
nisms remain to be understood. I trained mice to detect a whisker stimulus
and lick for a reward after one second of a delay period. Wide-field calc
ium imaging of dorsal cortex revealed that the whisker stimulation evoked
a series of activation and deactivation of different cortical areas only i
n expert mice\, suggesting learning-induced transformation of whisker sens
ory input into licking motor output. To investigate potential circuit chan
ges\, I have begun to combine wide-field imaging with optogenetic manipula
tion. Measuring causal interactions among cortical regions will reveal how
  learning remodels cortical circuits.\n\n
