DESCRIPTION:The demand for wireless data traffic has increased significant
ly since the evolution of internet and mobile technologies. However\, exis
ting wireless technology cannot meet the demands of future ultra-high band
width communication networks\, since data rates beyond 10 Giga bits per se
cond (Gbps) are not achievable by current millimeter wave (mmw) systems\,
typically operating below 60 GHz.\n \nIn this perspective\, the Terahertz
(THz) band from 0.1 to 10 Terahertz has the potential to provide up to Tb
ps link speed\, in order to satisfy beyond fifth generation (5G) communica
tion requirements such as high throughput and low latency. However\, while
the technology is rapidly advancing towards new transceiver architectures
 \, materials\, antenna designs\, channel/propagation models\, and physical
layer techniques\, there still exist several research challenges that nee
d to be addressed before achieving the Tbps links in practice.\n\nThe goal
of this symposium\, entitled ‘‘Towards Terahertz Technology for High
Throughput Communications’’\, is to discuss the latest research and ma
rket trends in the domain of Communications including – but not limited
to – the following aspects: \n\n•    Wireless Communications and N
 etworks\n•    5G/6G Communications\n•    THz Measurement Techniq
ues\n•    Dielectric Material Properties at THz Frequencies\n•
THz Sources and Antennas\n•    Radar and Sensing Applications\n•
Big (Science) Data\, Distributed Computing and Storage\n\nThe sympo
sium is organized by SWISSto12 S.A. and EPFL in the context of the TRANSPI
RE project\, a research activity funded under the “Future and Emerging T
echnologies - Open” (FET Open) program of the European Commission.
