CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Amyotrophic Lat
eral Sclerosis (ALS) Research Program Therapeutic Development Award. This
Award supports research ranging from validation of therapeutic leads throu
gh U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational New Drug (IND)-
enabling studies. The proposed studies are expected to be empirical in nat
ure and product-driven. Preliminary data are required\, including efficacy
in at least one ALS-relevant model system with a lead molecule/class of c
ompounds. The availability of validated biomarkers or biomarker developmen
t/characterization\, in parallel to the main therapeutic effort and for us
e in eventual clinical trials\, is a critical component of the FY20 ALSRP
Therapeutic Development Award. Applicants with limited ALS experience are
strongly encouraged to include collaborators with substantial expertise in
the relevant ALS model systems\, endpoints\, and pathophysiology.\n\nBiom
arker development and/or characterization (if not already validated)\, in
parallel to the main therapeutic effort\, is a critical component of the F
Y20 ALSRP Therapeutic Development Award. Efforts may include development/c
haracterization of target engagement biomarkers\, pharmacodynamic biomarke
rs to measure the biological effect of an investigational therapeutic\, an
d/or predictive/cohort-selective biomarkers that indicate whether a specif
ic therapy will be effective in an individual patient or patient subgroup.
 \n\nFunding:        max. $1’000’000\n\nDuration:       3 y
ears\n\nEligibility: Applicants from international organizations or instit
utions are eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictions.
Applicants must be independent investigators\, but can come from any acade
mic level.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through the eBR
AP platform. They should contain contact information\, a list of collabora

ation as suggested on the platform. Full applications (by invitation) will
be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Full application packages can be down
loaded from Grants.gov at any time.\n\nPre-Application Deadline: 27 March
