DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Amyotrophic Lat
 eral Sclerosis (ALS) Research Program Therapeutic Idea Award. This Award s
 upports hypothesis-driven therapeutic development and is designed to promo
 te new ideas aimed at drug or treatment discovery that are still in the ea
 rly stages of development. Development and/or modification of preclinical 
 model systems or the application of high-throughput screens to define or a
 ssess lead compounds for ALS treatment may also be proposed. All research 
 projects should include a well-formulated\, testable hypothesis based on s
 trong scientific rationale that holds translational potential to improve A
 LS treatment and/or advance a novel treatment modality. Preliminary data a
 re not required. Projects that focus primarily on investigating the pathop
 hysiology of ALS\, without consideration of therapeutic development\, are 
 not within the scope of this Funding Opportunity.\n\nThe FY20 ALSRP Therap
 eutic Idea Award Therapeutically Relevant Biomarker Option encourages appl
 icants to include the development of biomarker(s) in parallel with the mai
 n proposed Therapeutic Idea Award research effort. Additional funding is b
 eing offered for the co-development of biomarkers that will enhance the dr
 ug development process.\n\nFunding:        max. $500’000\n

 ion)\n\nDuration:       2 years\n\nEligibility: Applicants from inte
 rnational organizations or institutions are eligible to apply\, and there 
 are no citizenship restrictions. Applicants must be independent investigat
 ors\, but can come from any academic level.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-applicati
 ons are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact 
 information\, a list of collaborators and key personnel\, a preproposal na
 rrative\, and supporting documentation as suggested on the platform. Full
