  Resilient Cities\n\nThe revolution in sensing\, computation\, the interne
 t of things\, and mobile devices over the past two decades has provided e
 xciting opportunities for integrated sensing networks in the urban environ
 ment and has created a path towards achieving resilient engineering syste
 ms. Embedded and interactive sensory networks can deliver comprehensive fe
 edback about the true conditions of structures\, and produce information 
 that can assist the operation\, maintenance\, rehabilitation\, and functi
 onality of structures and infrastructure. Simultaneously\, we live in a ti
 me where ubiquitous smartphones contain dozens of different sensors and e
 mpower the public to regularly “crowdsense" infrastructures and the envi
 ronment — and as smart and self-driving cars continue to emerge\, vehic
 les will become a growing source for sensory data. Mobile sensor data str
 eams enable a unique potential to monitor infrastructure at rates and scal
 es not possible with prior technologies. The objective of this presentati
 on is to provide a vision for how research in machine learning\, sensor ne
 tworks\, health monitoring techniques\, physics models\, and the internet
  of things\, supplemented by laboratory and field implementations\, progr
 esses to resilient and cooperative cyber-physical systems in a connected u
 rban environment.
