DESCRIPTION:Aim:  The Health Effects Institute (HEI) is interested in rec
 eiving applications for research on novel and important aspects of  the 
  health  effects  of  air  pollutants\,  particularly  those  deriv
 ed  from  motor  vehicle  emissions.  HEI is particularly interested 
 in applications that address the following topics: (a) accountability or e
 ffectiveness of air quality regulations\, (b) strengthening causal interpr
 etation of evidence from existing cohorts\, or (c) contributions of wildla
 nd and agricultural burning to air quality and health. Additionally\, appl
 ications will be considered not only on these three specific topics\, but 
 also on other issues  related  to  improving  our  understanding  an
 d  assessment  of  the  health  risks  of  exposure  to  motor  
 vehicle  emissions\,  secondary  pollutants  derived  from  them\, 
  and  the  whole  air  pollution  mixture  to  which  they  contr
 ibute. HEI expects to fund three to five studies from this RFA.\n\nFunding
 :        $500’000 (small to medium sized studies)\n

 udies)\n\nHow to Apply: Applicants should first submit a brief Preliminary
  Application that provides the following information: title\, scientific r
 ationale\, a brief description of  the study aims\, design and methods\, 
 statistical methods\, and anticipated results. An estimated total budget a
 nd study duration should also be provided. In addition\, brief biosketches
  (maximum 2 pages per person) of the principal investigator and key co-inv
 estigator(s) should be provided. Investigators should use the Preliminary
   Application Form provided on the HEI webiste. The preliminary applicati
 on must be no more than 4 pages in length\; longer applications will be re
 jected.\n\nPreliminary applications will be reviewed by the Research Commi
 ttee and based on relevance of the proposed research to HEI’s mission as
  well as scientific merit of the preliminary application\, a limited numbe
 r will be invited for a full application. Applicants will be informed whet
