DESCRIPTION:Prof. Philippe Coquet & Dr Nicolas Tiercelin\nThere is an incr
easing need for reconfigurable and deformable antennas and devices for hig
h \nspeed wireless communications and high-resolution sensing systems at m
illimeter waves. \n“Smart antennas” must have specific functionalities
such as frequency agility\, beam-steering\, \nbeam forming and polarizati
on diversity. Conventional solutions for reconfigurable antennas \nare usi
ng active components or mechanical switches facing high cost\, high loss\,
and \ncomplexity issues as the operating frequency increases. The objecti
ve of the project is \ntherefore to propose new solutions of reconfigurabl
e antennas based on the mechanical \ndeformation of antennas and devices f
abricated on ultra soft polymer substrates.\n\nIn this frame we have demon
strated the feasibility of low loss antennas at 60 GHz on ultra \nflexible
substrates like polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS\, Young modulus <5MPa)\, and w
e are \ndeveloping reconfigurable antennas and phase shifters by integrati
ng actuating structures\, \nsuch as pneumatic\, microfluidic or magnetic m
icrosystems\, for varying their geometric \nparameters and thus their oper
 ating characteristics.
