DESCRIPTION:Aim: To foster further innovation at the intersection of machi
 ne learning\, programming languages\, statistics\, and software engineerin
 g\, and to deepen our collaboration with academia\, Facebook is pleased to
  invite faculty and graduate students to respond to this call for research
  proposals pertaining to these areas.\n\nWe are inviting proposals that ad
 vance foundations or practice of any of the topics mentioned above. The li
 st includes\, but is not limited to:\n \n\n	Differentiable programming\n	
 Probabilistic programming\n	Programming tools built using “big code”\n
 	Applications of machine learning to troubleshoot and optimize systems\n	R
 obustness and uncertainty management for ML models\n\n\nWinners will be in
 vited to the annual Programming Language Enthusiast Mind Melt (PLEMM) held
  in Fall 2020 (location TBD). Facebook will pay for the winners’ travel 
 and accommodations (one representative per winning proposal) to attend PLE
 MM and present during a workshop on probability and programming.\n\nFundin
 g:         USD $50’000\n\nEligibility:  Applicants must be curre
 nt full-time faculty at an accredited academic institution that awards res
 earch degrees to PhD students\, and they must be the Principal Investigato
 r on any resulting award. Awards must comply with applicable U.S. and inte
 rnational laws\, regulations\, and policies.\n\nHow to Apply: Proposals sh
 ould include a summary of the project (1-2 pages) \, a draft budget descri
 ption (1 page)\, CVs of all involved researchers\, and administrative info
 rmation about the institution. For any assistance on the organizational de
 tails or tax information\, please contact the Research Office. Budgets sho
 uld be formulated to include 5% overhead (the maximum allowed in the progr
 am guidelines)\, as well as funds for travel for the Principal Investigato
 r (PI) to attend the PLEMM event in Fall 2020.\n\nDeadline:       04
