DESCRIPTION:Prof. Sergio Lucia - TU Berlin\nAbstract:\nSolving nonlinear
model predictive control problems in real time is still an important chall
enge despite of recent advances in computing hardware\, optimization algor
ithms and tailored implementations. This challenge is even greater when un
certainty is present due to disturbances\, unknown parameters or measureme
nt and estimation errors. To enable the application of advanced control sc
hemes to fast systems and on low-cost embedded hardware where exact explic
it MPC is not possible\, recent works have proposed to approximate a compl
ex model predictive controllers using deep learning.\n\nThis talk focuses
on probabilistic validation techniques that can be used to compute safe sa
tes or general performance guarantees that can be used together with const
raint tightening techniques. The potential of the proposed approach is dem
onstrated with simulation results of several linear and nonlinear examples
.\n\nBio:\nSergio Lucia obtained his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering fro
m the University of Zaragoza in 2010 and the Dr.-Ing. degree from TU Dort
mund in the field of optimization and automatic control in 2014. He then
joined the Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg\, and visited the M
assachusetts Institute of Technology as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2016.\n\
nSince May 2017\, he is Assistant Professor and holds the chair “Intern
et of Things for Smart Buildings” at the TU Berlin and the Einstein Cen
ter Digital Future. His research efforts focus on decision-making under
uncertainty\, distributed control\, machine learning and embedded optimiz
ation in the framework of the Internet of Things. Applications of intere
st include smart buildings and energy systems. Prof. Lucia is an active m
ember of IFAC and IEEE CSS\, he is Associate Editor of the Journal of Pr
ocess Control and currently IT Chair of the National Organizing Committee
for the IFAC World Congress 2020.\n
