CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Facebook is pleased to invite university faculty to respo
nd to the new call for research proposals on AI System Hardware/Software C
o-Design. Facebook is especially interested in soliciting proposals for th
e wide range of AI hardware/algorithm co-design research areas\, including
  but not limited to:\n \n\n	Recommendation models\n	\n Compression\, qua
ntization\, pruning techniques\n Graph-based systems with implications on
  hardware (graph learning)\n	\n	\n	Hardware/software co-design for deep le
 arning\n	\n Energy-efficient hardware architectures\n Hardware efficienc
 y-aware neural architecture search\n Mixed-precision linear algebra and t
 ensor-based frameworks\n	\n	\n	Distributed training\n	\n Software framewo
rks for efficient use of programmable hardware\n Scalable communication-a
 ware and data movement-aware algorithms\n High-performance and fault-tole
rant communication middleware\n High-performance fabric topology and netw
 ork transport for distributed training\n	\n	\n	Performance\, programmabili
ty\, and efficiency at data center scale\n	\n Machine learning-driven dat
a access optimization (e.g.\, prefetching and caching)\n Enabling large m
odel deployment through intelligent memory and storage\n Training un/self
/semi-supervised models on large scale video data sets\n	\n	\n\n\nProposal
s from small collaborative teams\, particularly with Principal Investigato
rs bridging areas of systems and machine learning\, are encouraged. A tota
l of six awards are available\, up to $50\,000 each\, depending on the spe
cific requirements. Payment will be made to the proposer’s host universi
ty as an unrestricted gift.\n\nFunding:         max. $50’000\n\nE
ligibility:  Applicants must be current full-time faculty at an accredite
d academic institution that awards research degrees to PhD students\, and
they must be the Principal Investigator on any resulting award. Awards mus
 t comply with applicable U.S. and international laws\, regulations\, and p
olicies.\n\nHow to Apply: Proposals should include a summary of the projec
 t (1-2 pages)\, a draft budget description (1 page)\, CVs of all involved
researchers\, and administrative information about the institution. For an
y assistance on the organizational details or tax information\, please con
tact the Research Office. Budgets should be formulated to include 5% overh
ead (the maximum allowed in the program guidelines).\n\nDeadline:
    15 April 2020 (5:00 pm AOE)\n\nFurther information\n\n\n	Winners will
be invited to the annual AI Systems Faculty Summit held in Fall 2020 (Men
lo Park). Facebook will pay for the winners’ travel and accommodations (
one representative per winning proposal) to attend and present during the
summit.\n	More details on the call can be found on the RFP website.\n	For
any other questions\, contact the Research Office.\n
