DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Peer-Reviewed M
 edical Research Program (PRMRP) Awards. The PRMRP Investigator Initiated R
 esearch Award for Emerging Viral Diseases and Respiratory Health is design
 ed to support studies that will make an important contribution toward rese
 arch and/or patient care in the topic areas of Emerging Viral Diseases and
 /or Respiratory Health as particularly related to COVID-19. The rationale 
 for a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery\, populatio
 n-based studies\, a clinician’s first-hand knowledge of patients\, or an
 ecdotal data. Applications must include relevant data that support the rat
 ionale for the proposed study. These data may be unpublished or from the p
 ublished literature.\n\nRelevance to the healthcare needs of military Serv
 ice members\, Veterans\, military beneficiaries\, and/or the American publ
 ic is a key feature of this award. Applications are required to include an
  explanation of how the proposed project has relevance to military health.
 \n\nAll applications for PRMRP funding must specifically address at least 
 one of the Topic Areas as directed by Congress\; these topic areas are lis

 tion\, isolation\, characterization and manufacturing of antibodies (monoc
 lonal or polyclonal) from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) colle
 cted from patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).\n	Development
  of a wearable sensor that provides real-time diagnostics that can be used
  as a point of care for emerging viral diseases to predict illness before 
 onset of symptoms.\n	Surveillance and predictive modeling tools that lever
 age artificial intelligence approaches to predict outbreaks and epidemics 
 and support strategies for mitigating the threat of COVID-19.\n	Triage of 
 care for COVID-19 patients requiring access to resource-intensive interven
 tions.\n	Research to understand novel molecular and biological mechanisms 
 of COVID-19 health impacts (e.g.\, microbiome) and identification/validati
 on of biochemical\, physiological\, or combined biomarkers for evaluating 
 short- and long-term health impacts from COVID-19.\n	Research to determine
  direct and indirect impacts of COVID-19 on military readiness and unit cl
 imate\; interpersonal/family dynamics\; behavioral and mental health issue
 s such as depression\, suicide\, anxiety\, and loneliness and other key ri
 sk factors such as substance abuse and risky health-related behaviors.\n	R
 esearch on the etiology and prevention of acute respiratory distress syndr
 ome (ARDS) caused by host responses to coronaviruses\, particularly COVID-
 19.\n	Development of improved methods for assessing and treating lung inju
 ry due to coronaviruses\, particularly COVID-19.\n	Novel and/or innovative
  detection technologies or therapeutics to reduce the incidence and/or sev
 erity of ARDS and/or other lung injury secondary to coronaviruses\, partic
 ularly COVID-19.\n	Development of biomarker metrics to associate the long-
 term health outcomes of virus-induced ARDS with degradation of physiologic
 al and physical performance.\n	Ventilation and Extracorporeal Life Support
  approaches and technologies to support lung function or airway management
  in response to COVID-19 that increase survivability and/or minimize care 
 provider burden or exposure.\n	Pharmacological and biologic interventions 
 for COVID-19 induced complications\, including ARDS and related sequelae.\
