DESCRIPTION:The Gerda Henkel Foundation was established in 1976 in Düssel
 dorf to support the historical humanities.\nThe Foundation supports resear
 ch in the following fields: Archaeology\, History of Art\, Historical Isla
 mic Studies\, History\, History of Science\, History of Law\, Prehistory a
 nd Early History.\nIn addition\, the foundation offers the following thema
 tic grants: Security\, Society and the State\; Patrimonies\; Democracy\; L
 ost Cities.\nProjects and individuals in the following areas are NOT suppo
 rted: Medicine\, Natural and Engineering Sciences\, Psychology\, Linguisti
 cs and Literature Studies\, Drama or Film Studies\, Economics.\nThe founda
 tion offers various grants for:\n\n	Research projects conducted independen
 tly by applicants holding a PhD.\n	Postdoctoral scholarships.\n	PhD schola
 rships.\n\nFunding covers personnel costs (only for PhD students and Postd
 ocs)\, travel and material expenses. The grants do not cover overhead cost
 s.\nWho can apply: Academics in the fields of historical humanities\, rega
 rdless of their nationality and place of work.\nDeadlines for the 2020 non
 -thematic calls: \n\n\n	For Research projects and Postdoctoral scholarship
 s above EUR 25K: 27 May (earliest start: December).\n	For Research project
 s and Postdoctoral scholarships below EUR 25K: Rolling call (decision: wit
 hin 3-4 months).\n	For PhD scholarships: Rolling call (decision: within 6 
 months).\n\nDeadlines for the 2020 thematic calls:\n\n\n	For the "Democrac
 y" research programme: 2 June.\n	For the "Lost Cities" research programme:
