DESCRIPTION:Aim:  The Understanding Dynamic and Multi-scale Systems progr
am supports scholarship and research directed toward the discovery and ref
inement of theoretical and mathematical tools contributing to the continue
d development of the study of complex\, adaptive\, nonlinear systems. Stud
ents completing their doctoral training\, and committed to acquiring new s
kills and experience in a multi-disciplinary field such as complex systems
science\, can benefit from postdoctoral training where such opportunities
to broaden research experience and acquire new knowledge and skills.
The James S. McDonnell Foundation 21st Century Postdoctoral Fellowship Awa
rd in Understanding Dynamic and Multi-scale Systems is intended to provide
students in the final stages of completing a Ph.D. degree more freedom in
identifying and securing postdoctoral training opportunities.  Following
  a multi-phase review of applications\, selected pre-doctoral students are
granted “letters of intent to fund” that the student can use in negot
iating with potential postdoctoral training institutions while the student
is in the final phase of graduate school.\n\nFunding:       $200\,00
 0\n\nDuration:      2-3 years\n\nEligibility: The JSMF Fellowship is a
unique opportunity for students with an interest in and an aptitude for c
omplexity science who are in the final stages of completing their Ph.D. an
d looking to make a significant change in direction for their first postdo
ctoral fellowship (field of study\, model organism\, theory vs experimenta
l\, etc.) that will either be difficult or impossible without an external
source of funding.  Students should anticipate activating the Fellowship
between June 2021 and February 28\, 2022. This Fellowship is not intended
for individuals that already have completed a Ph.D. or students that have
already identified a postdoctoral position and a postdoctoral mentor.  \
n\nHow to Apply: Complete applications must be uploaded to the JSMF websit
 e. A complete application consists of two parts: one from the applicant an
d one from the PhD mentor. The applicant’ section should include: Applic
ant Contact Information\, Application Title\, Summary \, List of the top 2
contributions (articles\, code\, software\, etc.) made by the student dur
ing the Ph.D. period\, a brief description of the student’s current rese
arch written in essay format \, a description of the student’s postdocto
ral research interests written in essay format\, and the student's curricu
lum vita in PDF format. The mentor’s submission should include two lette
rs of support: one from the PhD advisor and another from a faculty member
 familiar with the applicant’s research.\n\n\nDeadline:      12-June
-2020\n\nFurther information\n\n	More information about the program is ava
ilable here\n	The application portal can be found here\n	For any other que
