DESCRIPTION:Prof. Ola Jabali (Politecnico di Milano)\nAs part of the 20th
Swiss Transport Research Conference (STRC 2020)\, the keynote speech of
Prof. Ola Jabali (Politecnico di Milano) will be broadcasted in the follo
wing YouTube live streaming:  https://youtu.be/8DY1Nyn7OSI\n\nTitle: Us
ing Electric Vehicles for Goods Distribution\n\nAbstract: The issues relat
ed to the use and integration of electric vehicles in logistics activities
\, have triggered a wide range of transportation science problems. In this
talk we review recent advances in this area. In particular\, we present b
attery charging and discharging patterns that need to be considered. We di
scuss the modelling of battery degradation processes. These are integrated
within the context of scheduling charging activities at depots. Furthermo
re\, considering energy consumption uncertainty\, we examine issues relate
d to designing reliable routes. Finally\, we elaborate several formulation
s and algorithmic components for situations where electric vehicles may de
viate from their routes to perform recharging activities.\n \nBio: Ola
Jabali is an associate professor at the operations research and discrete
optimization group of DEIB (Dipartimento di Elettronica\, Informazione e B
ioingegneria) at  Politecnico di Milano. She is also an affiliated Profes
sor at HEC Montréal\, and a collaborating member of the Interuniversity R
esearch Centre on Enterprise Networks\, Logistics and Transportation (CIRR
ELT). Before joining Politecnico di Milano\, she was an assistant Professo
r at the department of logistics and operations management of HEC Montréa
 l. She obtained her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the Eindhoven Uni
versity of Technology. She has a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Industrial Enginee
ring from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Her research interes
ts deal with modelling realistic problems arising in transportation\, prod
uction and logistics. She mainly focuses on optimizing goods transportatio
n\, in particular problems related to pollution\, uncertainty\, fleet comp
 osition and customer service.\n
