DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Spinal Cord Inj
ury Research Program (SCIRP) Awards. The SCIRP Translational Research Awar
d is intended to support to support translational research that will accel
erate the movement of promising ideas in SCI research into clinical applic
ations. Although not exhaustive\, some examples include demonstrating stud
ies of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in pre-clinical systems and/or
clinical research on therapeutics\, devices\, or practice using human tiss
ues or resources. Applications must include preliminary and/or published d
ata that are relevant to SCI and support the proposed research project.\n\
nTo meet the intent of the award mechanism\, applications must address at
least one of the FY20 SCIRP Focus Areas listed at the end of this announce
 ment.\n\nFunding:        max. $1’250’000\n\nDuration:      3

RP Focus Areas\n\n\n	Preserving and protecting spinal cord tissue at time
of injury for improved neurologic outcomes\n	Identifying and validating bi
omarkers for diagnosis\, prognosis\, and for evaluation of treatment effic
 acies\n	Bowel\, genitourinary\, cardiopulmonary dysfunction\, and neuropat
hic pain\n	Psychosocial issues relevant to people with SCI\, their familie
