 nal Learning have shared a curious history: a scientific success for one o
 ften provided an example of an impossible task for the other. Today\, the 
 goals of the two fields are aligned.  Cryptographic models and tools can 
 and should play a role in ensuring the safe use of machine learning.  I w
 ill discuss this development with its challenges and opportunities.\n\nThe
  Center for Intelligent Systems at EPFL (CIS) is a collaboration among IC\
 , SB\, and STI that brings together researchers working on different aspec
 ts of Intelligent Systems. In June 2020\, CIS has launched its CIS Colloqu
 ia featuring invited notable speakers.\n
