CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Software systems increasingly support communities of user
s who interact through the platform\, elevating the importance and impact
of research on integrity and privacy. How do we ensure that such communiti
es remain safe and their data remains private?\nTo tackle these challenges
\, Facebook is undertaking research and development on a Web Enabled Simul
ation (WES) system called WW. WW is a multiagent simulation that trains ag
ents (bots) using automated learning and optimization to simulate the soci
al behavior of a range of good and bad actors. The simulation aims to auto
matically find and fix integrity and privacy issues.\n\nIn this call\, Fac
ebook is particularly interested in research work that tackles these chall
enges and that could also lead to collaboration with their WW project. Mor
e details\, including open research problems and challenges we hope to tac
kle in partnership with the scientific community\, can be found in the key
note paper on the WES agenda and WW project.\n\nFacebook is pleased to inv
ite faculty to respond to this call for research proposals. In order to su
pport academic work that addresses our challenges and opportunities while
producing generalizable knowledge\, Facebook is pleased to offer six resea
rch awards of up to $50K each. Awards will be made as unrestricted gifts t
 o the principal investigator’s host university.\n\nFunding:
USD $50’000\n\nEligibility:  Applicants must be current full-time fa
culty at an accredited academic institution that awards research degrees t
o PhD students\, and they must be the Principal Investigator on any result
ing award. Awards must comply with applicable U.S. and international laws\
, regulations\, and policies.\n\nHow to Apply: Proposals should include a
 summary of the project (1-2 pages)\, a draft budget description (1 page)\,
CVs of all involved researchers\, and administrative information about th
e institution. For any assistance on the organizational details or tax inf
ormation\, please contact the Research Office. Budgets should be formulate
d to include 5% overhead (the maximum allowed in the program guidelines).\
 n\nDeadline:       15 July 2020 (5:00 pm AOE)\n\nFurther information\
n\n	More details on the call can be found on the RFP website.\n	For any ot
