DESCRIPTION:SWEET (SWiss Energy research for the Energy Transition) is a n
ew funding programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). The pur
pose is to fund trans- and interdisciplinary research and innovation activ
ities with a focus on Switzerland’s energy strategy 2050 and the country
’s climate policy goals. The programme targets research and innovation i
n the domains of energy efficiency\, renewable energy\, storage\, networks
\, and security and safety of critical energy infrastructures. SWEET spans
the innovation cycle from application-oriented basic research to preparat
ions for deployment.\n\nThe guiding theme for the 1st call is “Integrati
on of Renewables into a Sustainable and Resilient Swiss Energy System”\,
with 4 research challenges defined (chapters 3 & 4 of the Call Guidelines
for details):\n\n	Improve renewable energy system efficiency through flex
ibility and sector coupling\n	Integration of decentralized supply of renew
able energy into the Swiss energy system\n	Enabling renewables for heating
and cooling\n	Sustainability at the heart of a resilient Swiss energy sys
tem\n\n\nSWEET targets cooperative consortia of institutions working toget
her over 6-8 years to pursue portfolios of interrelated\, transdisciplinar
y projects. One consortium may only address one research challenge and onl
y one consortium will be funded per research challenge.\nA consortium comp
rises at least 5 applicants from different legal entities and is led by a
host institution which is a Swiss institution of higher education and the
legal entity applying on behalf of a consortium.\n\nWho can apply\nResearc
h institutes\, tertiary education sector\, private sector\, as well as pub
lic sector such as cantons and communes. Foreign institutions may particip
ate and receive funding\, provided their skills and competencies are essen
tial and cannot be fulfilled by Swiss applicants.\nConsortia are composed
of Applicants (receiving SWEET funds) and Cooperation partners (not receiv
ing SWEET funds). Both may participate in more than one consortium.\n\nFun
ding\nOverall budget for the 1st call is 30 MCHF: 8 MCHF for challenges 1
to 3\, and 6 MCHF for challenge 4.\nApplicants in a consortium are expecte
d to contribute financially and/or in kind according to their abilities.\n
\nEligible costs\nInternal costs for staff. Costs for equipment\, services
\, expenses and others. Costs in connection with coordination\, management
and monitoring of the consortium\, as well as for communication\, dissemi
nation and exploitation of results (knowledge and technology transfer).\n\
nSubmission and deadline\nUse the official templates available on the SWEE
T webpage.\nApplication documents must be submitted to sweet@bfe.admin.ch
no later than 12 October 2020 (12 noon CEST).\n\nLetters of Commitment of
Applicants or Cooperation Partners\, as well as a Letter of Commitment of
the Host Institution are requested by SFOE: please contact the EPFL resear
ch office at research@epfl.ch.\nAn Open access and data management plan is
requested: for help\, please contact the EPFL library at researchdata@epf
l.ch.\n\nFor further information: please visit the SWEET webpage\, and rea
d carefully the SWEET Guidelines. You can send your questions to sweet@bfe
