DESCRIPTION:Velux Stiftung was founded in 1980 by Villum Kann Rasmussen\,
a Danish engineer. He developed a novel window construction that could be
installed in sloping roofs\, which he named “VELUX” (“Ve” for vent
ilation\, and “Lux” for light).\n\nThe Velux Stiftung supports basic a
nd applied research in the fields of:\n\n	daylight\n	healthy ageing\n	opht
halmology -> NEW: The foundation has recently published its new focus in o
phthalmology research. For the next call deadline (September 30\, 2020) al
l projects in ophthalmology research will still be examined\, although app
lications in the new focus will be preferred. From the following call dead
line (April 30\, 2021)\, only applications in the new focus will be consid
 ered.\n\n\nProjects should:\n\n	stem from innovative\, out-of-the-box idea
s\,\n	be relevant beyond the borders of a single discipline\,\n	accelerate
research by removing bottlenecks\,\n	enable implementation of research an
d\n	promote and/or implement their results inside and outside academia.\n\
n\nProjects outside these fields\, but under medicine and biology (especia
lly biology gerontology and geriatrics)\, have a low likelihood of being s
upported\, but may be considered in exceptional cases.\n\nThe foundation w
elcomes international and interdisciplinary collaborations.\n\nThe project
application needs to establish a good argumentation why no sufficient gov
ernmental support can be obtained.\n\nWho can apply\n\n\n	Both individual
researchers and research groups can apply.\n	The main applicant (e.g. prof
essor\, group leader) must be a permanent employee of a university or othe
r permanent research entity anywhere in the world.\n	Non-permanent employe
es are welcome to apply as co-applicants.\n\n\nDuration: 1-4 years\n\nFund
ing: approx. CHF 50-100’000 per year covering\n\n\n	Research staff costs
  (personnel costs\, doctoral students\, teaching replacement).\n	Associate
 d research costs (e.g. consumables\, conference\, travel\, publication).\n
Equipment costs may be included if duly justified.\n	Does NOT cover overh
eads nor social insurances.\n\n\nDeadline for institutional support letter
: 23 September 2020\n\n\n	Please complete and sign the institutional suppo
rt letter form available in the EPFL Toolkit  and submit it together with
your proposal to research@epfl.ch to have the letter countersigned.\n\n\n
