DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
 gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the Neurotoxin Expo
 sure Treatment Parkinson’s Program (NETP) Awards. The NETP Early Investi
 gator Research Award supports neurotoxin exposure and treatment-related Pa
 rkinson’s disease research opportunities for investigators in the early 
 stages of their careers\, under the guidance of a designated Mentor(s). Th
 e Early Investigator is considered the Principal Investigator (PI) of the 
 application and must exhibit strong potential for\, and commitment to\, pu
 rsuing a career as an investigator at the forefront of Parkinson’s disea
 se research\; however\, the PI is not required to have previous Parkinson
 ’s disease research experience. Applications must include at least one M
 entor\, appropriate to the proposed research project\, who has experience 
 in Parkinson’s disease research and mentoring as demonstrated by a recor
 d of active funding\, recent publications\, and successful mentorship.\n\n
 To meet the intent of the award mechanism\, applications must address one 
 of the FY20 NETP Focus Areas\, which are listed at the end of this announc
 ement.\n\nFunding:        max. $400’000\n\nDuration:      2 ye
 ars\n\nEligibility: Applicants from international organizations or institu
 tions are eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictions. T
 he investigator must be a postdoctoral or clinical fellow\, instructor\, o
 r assistant professor within 10 years of advanced degree training or resid
 ency training completion.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted

 tter of intent\, and a list of potential recommendation letter writers as

 lead to the development of new treatments for Parkinson’s disease follow
 ing neurotoxin exposure.\n	System-level mechanism of dopamine refractory m
 otor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease\, including postural instability\, 
 freezing of gait\, and treatment-associated dystonia\, that could lead to 
 development of new treatments in patients with neurotoxin exposure.\n	Clin
 ical and research application of digital health technology leading to deve
 lopment of new treatments for Parkinson’s disease in those individuals e
 xposed to neurotoxins.\n
