 roups and quasi-isometry invariants.\n\nAbstract:  In this first lecture 
 we will introduce some of the main ideas of geometric group theory\, in pa
 rticular the word metric the Cayley graph and the notion of qausi-isometry
 . We will give some examples of quasi-isomery invariants and prove the so 
 called Milnor-Svarc Lemma.
