DESCRIPTION:Théo Jules\, ENS Paris\nGeometry and mechanics of origamis\,
by Théo Jules (ENS Paris)\n\nAbstract  Origamis are three-dimensional
structures obtained by folding a thin sheet following a pre-imprinted patt
ern of creases. The infinite number of imaginable pattern make the potenti
al for innovation only limited by our understanding of their mechanical pr
operties. I will present our experimental study on the mechanical behavior
of a single crease produced from a thin plastic sheet\, both in the limit
of elastic deformation and beyond. I will also briefly discuss how to exp
loit these observations in a more complex creases pattern\, named “Curve
d accordion”\, which produces unique shapes that originate from the comp
 etition between elasticity and geometry.
