CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is pleased to invite universi
ty faculty to respond to this call for research proposals on exploring uni
que considerations in the rapidly growing space of AR\, VR\, and smart dev
ices.\n\nWe aim to develop a broader and deeper understanding across the i
ndustry of how to balance the experience of both users and non-users of AR
/VR products\, with a focus on the potential for disproportionate harm to
communities of color. We know there are nuanced trade-offs to consider aro
und the wearer of AR/VR products and those who find themselves in their fi
eld of vision\, and that these tradeoffs must account for the impact on vu
lnerable communities. We also know that we cannot address these challenges
alone\, and hope to work with researchers to inform and influence how we
build our products.\n\nFacebook is soliciting proposals to accelerate rese
arch on how user and non-user experiences differ across social groups and
cultures\, including non-U.S. based perspectives. We are considering non-u
sers to be both those who do not own AR/VR devices (either by choice or ci
rcumstance) and also those who are bystanders to a user’s experience.\n\
nFunding:         USD $75’000\n\nEligibility:  Applicants must b
e current full-time faculty at an accredited academic institution that awa
rds research degrees to PhD students\, and they must be the Principal Inve
stigator on any resulting award. Awards must comply with applicable U.S. a
nd international laws\, regulations\, and policies.\n\nHow to Apply: Propo
sals should include a summary of the project (1-2 pages)\, a draft budget
description (1 page)\, CVs of all involved researchers\, and organizationa
l details. For any assistance on the organizational details or tax informa
tion\, please contact the Research Office. Budgets should be formulated to
include 10% overhead (the maximum allowed in the program guidelines).\n\n
 Deadline:       29 October 2020 (5:00 pm AOE)\n\nFurther information\
n\n	More details on the call can be found on the RFP website.\n	For any ot
her questions\, contact the Research Office.\n
