DESCRIPTION:Giulio  Orecchia (EPFL)\nWhen an elliptic curve is allowed to
  vary in a 1-parametric family\, it may degenerate\, and along with its sm
 oothness lose also its group structure. Neron models were introduced in th
 e '70's to degenerate the curve without losing the group structure. In the
  first part of the talk I will introduce Neron models and give their log g
 eometric intepretation\; in the second part I will show how this interpret
 ation gives a way to degenerate group structures for n-parametric families
  of elliptic curves with n>1.\n\n\n(30 minutes general talk followed by 45
  minutes research talk)\n
